Our footprint
Kind to your coils.
Kinder to the earth.
We built this brand on a simple belief: caring for your hair and caring for the planet are the same act. Here is the honest story of our packaging, what it saves, and where we are still going.
Why a pouch, not a bottle
Less plastic, before anything else.
A bottle does its job with a lot of plastic. Our refill pouch does the same job with far less of it. An independent lifecycle assessment of stand-up pouches versus rigid plastic bottles found:
63%
less plastic by weight than a rigid bottle
Lifecycle assessment
62%
lower greenhouse gas emissions
Cradle to grave
76%
less water used, start to finish
Including transport and end of life
Figures from a cradle-to-grave lifecycle assessment of personal-care stand-cap pouches versus rigid bottle equivalents (PTIS for Glenroy, via the Flexible Packaging Association). Industry-funded study; we share it because the methodology is published and the direction is clear.
What 1,000 pouches means
Every thousand pouches avoids roughly 33 to 55 pounds of plastic.
That is 15 to 25 kilos of plastic that simply never gets made, never gets shipped, and never needs a second life, compared with conventional 12 oz bottles. This is an illustrative figure from published lifecycle data. When our final pouch is in hand, we will weigh it ourselves and update this number with our own measurements.
~44 lb
1,000 of our pouches
~77 lb
1,000 conventional 12 oz bottles
The honest part
Let's be real about recycling.
Flexible pouches cannot go in your curbside bin. They jam the sorting machines, so most curbside programs will not take them. That is exactly why we take empties back: bring your pouch to your salon, your shop, or a participating drop-off point, and we will make sure it gets recycled properly.
But here is the bigger truth: only about 9% of all plastic ever made has been recycled. The most powerful thing packaging can do is use less plastic in the first place. That is the whole case for our pouch. Not a perfect afterlife, a lighter footprint from the start.
The pouch return program
Bring it back.
Finished your pouch? Bring the empty back to the salon or shop where you bought it, or to any participating drop-off point. We will make sure it gets recycled properly, and you will get a coupon toward your next Coily Company purchase as our thank-you.
When a pouch is returned, its materials get recycled and start life again. Whatever shelf they end up on, whatever product they hold next, they keep the cycle going, carrying eco-friendly packaging a little further into the world.
Find a drop-off pointHow it works
- 1. Finish your pouch down to the last squeeze.
- 2. Bring the empty back to your salon, shop, or a participating drop-off point.
- 3. We collect returned pouches and send them for proper recycling.
- 4. You get a coupon toward your next purchase. The earth gets a little breathing room.
Water is part of our why
Every drop counts.
Making plastic takes water, a lot of it. Because our pouches use so much less material, that same lifecycle assessment found they use 76% less water than rigid bottles, from production through transport to end of life.
Water conservation is one of our brand pillars, and it is one of the causes we give to. Choosing packaging that sips instead of gulps is how we live that value in every single order.
Gentler by design
Less plastic in the loop.
Every piece of plastic ever made still exists in some form, breaking down into smaller and smaller pieces. Researchers and regulators alike treat microplastics in personal care as a legitimate concern worth acting on with precaution. Our formulas are already free of the harsh stuff, and our packaging keeps the total plastic in circulation smaller. It is one more way we choose gentle, for you and for the earth.
